Over and over and over again the recalls come and yet the veterinary community along with anyone else with a vested interest in continuing this insanity will say that kibble is the only balanced diet for pets. Pet owners can walk away from the pet food recalls if they choose to take themselves out of the equation and only focus on what their dog needs not what they are comfortable with or what is convenient for them.
Here are a couple of the most recent recalls that I am aware of – it is happening so often I don’t even care to keep up at this point. I share these only in the hopes that more people will wake up out of the Matrix so their dogs can have a chance at thriving and living a real dog’s life:

Veterinarians have their own “nutrition” consulting firm now that says only THEY can formulate a balanced and complete homemade diet for pet owners to serve up to their pets – guess they have been losing a little business because of the raw diet so they had to find a way to cash in.
When they state things like this, it always makes me laugh out loud considering how little they have been taught or have learned about what a dog or cat needs to eat and apparently even less about their anatomy and physiology if they are still buying the “omnivore” THEORY about dogs. They focus on nutrient requirements and basically micromanage the diet so that it seems impossible for the pet owner to accomplish it on their own – which is exactly the goal they desire. But I digress simply because it is so frustrating how much people give away their power of attorney and they don’t have to. Just forget about what the white coats say and look to the wild model. You will also have to ignore all the talk about how our dogs have now somehow evolved into domesticated androids of some kind and aren’t related to the wolf anymore. Another laugh out loud moment for me.
Notice how at least most of the recalls are about salmonella contamination – the very thing that many say is why it is too scary to feed raw food to your pets. They also state that the salmonella isn’t an issue for your pet but for YOU. They sure can’t make up their minds if it is dangerous for you, or for the pets or for both since the statements on that vary from recall to recall. Are you scared when you fix dinner for your family and chicken or steak is on the menu? Or do you just wash everything and get on with making the food? Why the disconnect when it comes to raw food for the pets then? You still wash everything you just don’t have to cook the meal, you just feed it!
This country has gotten to be so paranoid about everything and everyone wants to be safe. You have got to be kidding me if you think we are safer now than say 20 years ago? We are much less safe than ever before with big government control freaks behind it all. They push a big lie to support only certain industries that are in compliance with the government agenda.
One of my clients started a firestorm on a group she belongs to when she stated dogs are carnivores and shared my colleague Dr. Jeannie Thomason’s (deceased 2022, article only available in our courses) article, Dogs Are Carnivores. So many on her group responded with the latest so-called “scientific” study on whether dogs have adapted to eat carbohydrates or not – which they, of course, proved to be true. But they did not qualify it. And we have to always follow the money behind each study to see who is funding it and why. The scientists (well if you want to call them that these days) proved what they set out to prove. But they left out pertinent facts so the agenda could propagate itself.
People on this dog group were saying things such as “Perhaps the most important thing to keep in mind when comparing diets for our canine companions is that dogs are not wolves. The wolf is a remote ancestor, but dogs (after some 40,000 years) have developed the capacity to digest starch; wolves have not.” Never mind the fact that the DNA of a dog and the grey wolf is less than 0.2%!!!
Here is the article that supposedly got the pet food industry, veterinary industry, and all kibble feeders feeling justified in their actions to support this crapola diet for the dog (who is an obligate carnivore regardless of what is stated to the contrary by humans – and yes I said obligate just like the cat): “Starchy diet may have transformed wolves to dogs — Canine cousins differ in genes related to digestion” Science News (8/24/13) http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/347706/description/Starchy_diet_may_have_transformed_wolves_to) – do I need to mention Pottenger’s Cats study again? And also what about the fact that vaccines are changing the genome? Deleting chromosomes? Changing DNA? Especially the mercury and aluminum and did you know those ingredients are also found in pet food not just in vaccines? Do your research! As Mulder used to say on the XFiles, the truth is out there!
My client told me she learned from me to always follow the money and then she provided LOTS of proof to her group on why this so-called proof that dogs have adapted away from being wolves and are now able to eat carbs was exactly what we (those of us who care to honor the canine as the carnivore he is) have been saying all along – no matter which veterinary or pet food industry study tries to prove otherwise states.
Here is what she found and stated to her group:
“Of the 60 dogs that were studied, it doesn’t say what their diet has been or how old they are or their medical history. Are these dogs that have been fed kibble their entire life? I’d suspect that if they are then sure, they can probably digest carbs ‘better’ than a wolf who has never had a carb before. Do you have a link to the actual study? I would love to see the full study and not just an article that doesn’t list the details.
Here is an article that shows that Mars (Pedegree) funds research at National Human Genome Research Institute: http://www.digplanet.com/wiki/Waltham_Centre_for_Pet_Nutrition
‘The Waltham Centre for Pet Nutrition is a research organisation owned by Mars, Incorporated located at Waltham on the Wolds, Leicestershire, United Kingdom. In April 2007, in collaboration with the National Human Genome Research Institute of Bethesda, Maryland, Waltham found that the genetic variation of dogs’ size is due to mutations in the IGF-1 gene. This was discovered through research on the Portuguese Water Dog. This research was preparatory work for similar studies on the human genome.’
After doing a little more research into this, I found that Kerstin Lindblad-Toh was one of the colleagues mentioned in this article, I found this:
http://www.scilogs.com/the_gene_gym/an-interview-with-kerstin-lindblad-toh-comparative-genomicist/
‘The early dog research was advocated by Jasper Rine [UC Berkeley] and Don Patterson [Rtd. University of Pennsylvania] and funding by organizations such as the American Kennel Club/Canine Health Foundation.‘ In 2002, I was contacted by a group of researchers, led by Elaine Ostrander, interested in dog genetics and wanted the genome sequenced. We (I) then developed a plan to sequence the genome where we also surveyed the variation in the genome. This work was funded by NIH for its comparative value and was performed under my leadership at the Broad Institute.
Who funds AKC/CHF? Dog food companies. Follow the money! Of course dog food companies want dogs to digest carbs 🙂 I know I will get berated for this statement. I am not attacking AKC or CHF. I just want people to do research and dig deeper into things and think about it.
Another note: Just because we can digest something better than another, doesn’t mean that we should eat it or are benefiting from it. Where is a study that shows that carbs are good for a dog? I have family members that have smoked their entire lives and lived to be in their 90’s, does that make smoking good for us? I can digest candy bars, does this make them good for me? Sure, it may not ‘hurt’ me (or does it??), but is it the healthiest thing for me to eat? Probably not. Do I still eat a candy bar now and then, sure I do, but I acknowledge that it’s not the best for me. I want my dogs to have what is best for them. Just because they can eat something and digest it ‘better’ than a wolf, doesn’t mean that it is good for them and what they should be eating. http://www.b-naturals.com/newsletter/dogs-and-starch-digestion/“
Awesome response on her part!!! I was so excited to see her owning all she has learned and continues to learn all on her own. That’s why I love being an animal naturopath – because my goal is to see my clients become empowered and able to make their own decisions for their dogs, not dependent on me.
Why? Because their dogs will live better, healthier lives which is the reason I got into this in the first place.
I do not care what these studies say because I do follow the money. I don’t care about the pet food recalls because I don’t feed that junk to my dogs. I don’t care about all of the humans who have either a vested interest in seeing this propaganda is propagated to the masses or just want to hold onto THEIR accepted beliefs for THEIR comfort, THEIR convenience, etc.
I care about only one thing: the dog. Giving him what he needs to thrive based upon his anatomy and physiological requirements not human agendas.
One more thing: Why, pray tell, are dog beds, dishes, rugs, treats, etc., made into the shape of a BONE if we all didn’t know at the core of our beings that is EXACTLY what dogs were designed to eat??? Huh?
Walk away from pet food recalls and start feeding them what THEY need to thrive. And then you also won’t have to worry about huge vet bills, diseases, etc., etc., etc.
Until next time…
Have a pawsitively tail waggin’, NATUROPATHICALLY healthy day!
