Recently I was thinking back into my “why” for beginning this journey into natural health – for animals and us. Of course as I’ve shared so many times it began with my amazing dog Shadrach. He helped me learn for his sake. I had to learn to let go of the fear of change that was locking us into a cycle of illness and also frustration with it all. My desire was and is VIBRANT health for my dogs!
The interesting thing is that my journey began in earnest because of my deep desire to help Shadrach. In the process of that I learned about toxic daily chemicals that were the cause behind his illness – and my challenges as well. Which led me to some amazing essential oils – something else I wasn’t willing to consider right away either I’m sad to say. I was still really stuck in conventional thinking and a lack mentality.
I had to ask myself the following questions to move past the fear and resistance to receive the vibrant health and wellness I was being offered for Shadrach, myself, my husband – and every future dog that has since come into my life. Our mind and emotions play a huge role in this. I have seen it over and over again that fear causes others to attack the message and the messenger that is actually the lifeline leading them out of danger into the wellness zone.
1. Are you frustrated EVER that your vet appears to treat the symptoms but rarely digs for the cause – some may but it isn’t a common thing.
2. Or that no matter what medication is prescribed it “works for a while” but then the issues seem to come back more prevalently and virulently than before?
3. Or are you satisfied with the status quo?
I can say 1 – yes, 2 – yes and 3 – no. So began my journey for a better, more excellent way. This turned out to be not good just for Shadrach either as I discovered the choices for my home, yard, etc., ALL determined what would be good for ALL of us who lived in our home.
Okay so going back to fear I have discovered that one of the reasons that the essential oils I use helped Shadrach so well are explained in an article I found (seems to no longer be available on the internet though) entitled Emotional Reactions. Shadrach had been very abused and starved prior to coming to us at the tender age of four months – that left a few emotional scars that needed to be dealt with. We all have skeletons in our closets so in my pursuit to help him, I began to be “set free” along with him – although my journey has taken far longer than his did. That makes sense since they have far shorter lives so they can’t waste time being offended and grieved for as long as we seem to do.
Quote from the article: “Emotional Reactions“
“One other type of reaction to consider is one that is not physical but rather is emotional. Our sense of smell is the only one of our senses that is directly connected to the limbic system and thus the memory and emotions. It is because of this that a familiar smell can very quickly trigger a memory, some good and some bad. Many people can have a quick and strong dislike or emotional reaction to an oil because of a negative emotion that has been ignored. Because our physical health is very much connected to our emotional health, these are things that need to be dealt with just as much as the physical issues. This is where prayer and using the oils is hugely important helping our bodies to heal emotionally and physically.”
Additionally I also was given a CD series by my friend and fellow natural health advocated, Laurie Dawson. This series is by Dr. Corrine Allen, a colleague in natural health. As I listened to her set on Healthy Vibrations I had a few takeaways which I hope help you to better understand what essential oils (quality, non-pesticide grown, non-synthetic) really do for us, AND why they are a great choice to a healthier lifestyle for them as well as us:
* We are energy /frequency/vibration – everything has a frequency
* Illness has a chaotic frequency, the essential oils harmonize that frequency back into balance
* Raise vibrations and hydrate well with good water to attain wellness
Going back to my comments about toxic chemicals, please note that they also lower frequency. Using non-toxic products such as the Thieves household cleaner, veggie and fruit wash, hand soap, laundry soap, etc, are a healthy, viable solution for the entire household. Our dogs are more sensitive to these things than we are – what we use in our homes and on ourselves as well as them (including what we wash their bedding in).
Their sense of smell is so much greater than ours so it stands to reason the off-gassing from all the household and yard products, paint, etc., can and often are the cause behind their illnesses even if undiagnosed or recognized as such.
Shadrach was having an allergic reaction to the fresh paint in our home. The vet did not diagnose it, we figured it out. Our vet did prescribe antibiotics even without any infection and nothing showing under the skin scrapings he took. It was all he knew to do. Sadly though Shadrach reacted to the antibiotics and a few hundred dollars later (this was a number of years ago – today the cost would undoubtedly have been in the thousands) he was sicker than ever. What fueled me then was anger, which lit a fire under me. The anger had to be repurposed though into something more productive – learning, sharing and teaching others these truths. At least those who truly desire to know, learn and apply them rather than simply finding reasons to disagree while condemning the saving message – FEAR once again.
My hope is that you will also be encouraged to seek out these truths for vibrant health for your own dogs and not just about essential oils but the whole health approach for wellness. The oils as you’ll learn are about raising vibrations, but it takes a whole health approach for true, vibrant health for your dogs and yourself.
