Did I Make a Difference?

Great Dane puppy and Elkhound puppy mixAt the end of the day, the only questions I will ask myself are…Did I love enough? Did I laugh enough? Did I make a difference?” ~Katrina Mayer

Anyone who knows me in person will most likely say that I am a touchy/feely person who loves to laugh. I love to make others feel good. This past summer we had a big swim party at my Mom’s house for the 4th of July. I’m much more into the fun and games than the food at events like this – being in the water, playing games with the kids, interacting and talking to people, playing with whatever dog is there. I’m not a social butterfly but in a situation like this where I know most of the people I sort of just flit around like a butterfly from flower to flower enjoying what each person has to share and offer.

It’s during times like this that I put aside my viewpoints so I can hear people, really hear them. I don’t offer my advice or help with any health challenges for pets or people UNLESS asked and then I do so gently because so many people I know here are not into natural health at all. When I do make suggestions (after being asked) I do hear the excuses of “it costs too much” or “that’s too much trouble” or “I don’t have the time” – I always make essential oil suggestions! I don’t understand it but I always offer a solution of some sort that IS doable if the person asking is willing. After watching the video by a YL Silver on overcoming objections (see below) – it is SO funny by the way but excellent in the wording and delivery – I learned a few great pointers….but I digress.

Back to the party. So anyway I am a prankster by nature just as my Dad was and as are my siblings. When there is water around, I stay in it – swimming pool, lake, ocean, it doesn’t matter I am going to be in the water. So I stayed in the pool for most of the day talking to others, swimming of course, and playing ballgames with my brothers and nephews. Yes, I’m that tomboy in the crowd. Anyway, I was having a lot of fun and happy to entertain those sitting poolside with my antics lol. One of my nephew’s who is in college here at the University of NM, brought two of his BFF’s with him. They were sorority girls since he’s a frat boy. And because it was their first time meeting all of my wild and crazy family, I’m sure maybe a little more reserved than they might have been in their own element. After chatting with them all for a while, I was in the pool and playing with those swim noodles everyone has in their pools these days. I started telling one of my brother’s how my nephew and I used to play Star Wars games when he was little, using the noodles as those neon laser swords that were used. Before long, I was whomping everyone that walked by the pool with it on their behinds – including my nephew AND the sorority girls that were rather nonplussed by it all.

Do you think I made a difference that day? Well at least an impression if not a difference!!! I did make them all laugh – that is certain – I have no idea what they thought but that doesn’t matter because I was definitely being my authentic real self lol.

I made sure to spend time talking to every person there, including the children (I always spend time with the children as they are so much fun and I learn so much from them about being real and authentic in who I am) not because I HAD to but because I WANTED to – it was fun!

All of that to say that it is important to just be yourself and to find a way to relate to those you want to help with the oils, as you’ll see in the video on overcoming obstacles and use who you are to be the difference in the lives you touch when sharing the essential oils with others.

You don’t have to be a Darren Hardy or a Teri Secrest or anyone but YOU. Just be the BEST you and be the REAL you. That’s what makes a difference in the lives of others. And as you watch the second video, I hope you are inspired to know that it just takes one, kind, thoughtful little idea that can make the biggest difference of all in the lives of others – to just let people know you care. There is an old saying that says, people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.

You are unique and you are the only you who can be that unique difference in the lives of others – for the better and for good. So just be YOU, share your personal experiences with the oils and then share the oils with others!
