The Raw Truth

It’s interesting how we’ve come to accept that to feed our dogs, we only need to drop by our local pet store or supermarket and pick up a bag of the latest trendy, packaged food. Really, though, what we’ve bought into is the pet food industry sales pitch that states in order for our dogs to be healthy and eat a balanced diet they MUST eat this food. What we aren’t typically told is that it is this very food that is one of the major culprits behind the declining health of our dogs. What I am about to share with you is the raw truth behind these bags of kibble.

This isn’t meant to be an expose` but more of an unveiling so that you can make a proper informed choice about what to feed your dogs in order for them to thrive. Packaged dry foods have only been in existence for roughly 50 years and yet for some reason we’ve bought the untruth behind these packaged pet foods. These same words such as “balanced” diet and “scientific testing” are used quite avidly by our medical industry as well. It therefore should not surprise you to learn that the very same folks who manufacture these foods are the same ones who teach our veterinarians the little nutrition they learn in school. The veterinarians are also offered excellent incentives to encourage their clients to purchase and use this food for their dogs’ “good” health –which our dogs won’t have if we continue to feed them this way. read more

Come to the Edge Part 3: The Conclusion

Come to the edge, he said. They said: We are afraid. Come to the edge, he said. They came. He pushed them and they flew.” -Guillaume Apollinaire

In conclusion of our journey of animal care, laws, welfare and rights…

Possibly all the people pushing for these new hard-core draconian laws really believe it will make things better for the animals. I tend to think that many believe this but at the core of the movement behind these laws are those who believe that animals should be living separately from us in order to allow animals to have “real” lives. Some even believe that, for animals to live with us, work with us, play with us and/or help us is for them to be enslaved, and they are better off dead than enslaved. I honestly don’t think my dog thinks he’s the slave in our house. He has it pretty good, especially considering that before he came to live with us he had been a very abused, starved and neglected puppy. He hasn’t missed a meal since he came to live with us and he is rather demanding that his meals be on time! We bathe him, brush him, do his nail trims, minister to him when he’s ill, pay for his food (he is fed a species natural diet) and all his expenses which include the best nature can offer to an ailing animal, get up at ungodly hours so he can cavort with his dog friends at the park, and play with him. I think the “enslaved” part of this thinking is grossly misplaced. And I don’t think he’d rather be dead in place of the life he now leads even though he previously led a life of abuse and neglect. read more

Come to the Edge Part 2: The Questions

Come to the edge, he said. They said: We are afraid. Come to the edge, he said. They came. He pushed them and they flew.” -Guillaume Apollinaire

Continuing on with our journey of animal care, laws, welfare and rights…

We forgo health that causes suffering to stop suffering. To force baby animals to be neutered far too young rather than waiting until maturation, causes their suffering. Without their gonads at such a tender age, they are missing critical growth hormones. They end up suffering with joint, structural and behavioral problems, confusing their owners, which is often the cause of their being surrendered to shelters or just abandoned anyway; the very event that these new laws will supposedly prevent. read more

Come to the edge, he said. They said: We are afraid. Come to the edge, he said. They came. He pushed them and they flew.” -Guillaume Apollinaire

I’m going to take you on this long journey with me and my hope is that by leaving you with questions you’ll look within to find the answers.

Recently I was sent a link to a video that was recorded undercover by a group that is known for doing undercover videos for the intent of exposing animal cruelty and abuse. I hesitated to watch it because I knew it would be something horrendous for an animal lover like me to watch, so I saved it for the time just before I was closing down my work for the day. Not a good idea. I cannot tell you how devastated and terribly upset it made me. However, it was also the catalyst for this article series. Yes, I obviously needed to watch the video. Someone has to be a voice for those who cannot express their voices. But next time something like this comes in, I will not watch it at the end of the day so that it haunts me through the night. read more

Easter: It’s Not Just for Humans

This is written by Teri Wilson, author of All Creatures of Our God and King: What God’s Word Says About Animals. Teri will be an upcoming guest on Animal Talk Naturally!

All Creatures of Our God and King

I was at a book signing recently for my book (All Creatures of Our God and King: What God’s Word Says About Animals) and I was approached by a man who asked me the following question: “Why would anyone want to write a book about what the Bible says about animals? Doesn’t it just tell us to kill them all?” Sady, this kind of reaction is not uncommon. So many people today do not realize how God feels about the animal kingdom, his own special creation.

This Easter, I would like to share an important Biblical truth - When Jesus died on the cross, He didn’t just save us humans - He died for the animals, too. Prior to Jesus’ death on the cross, animal sacrifices were a common and vital part of every family’s worship experience. Lambs, goats, birds were sacrificed at home, at temples and on altars themselves. The animals took the place of humans. We humans did not have to die for our sins - innocent, pure animals took our place. Through the course of history, countless animals died to save human souls. Before the time of Jesus, humans found their salvation through the animal sacrifice. When Jesus died on the cross, He became the one and only sacrifice. He died to pay for all our sins forever and ever. Animal sacrifice was no longer necessary. read more

Medical Journal says Lavender and Tea Tree Pose Risks: Right? Or Wrong?

by David Stewart, PhD, DNM, IASP

A recent issue of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), contains an article linking certain dangers to lavender and tea tree oils. The article has four authors, two PhD scientists and two MDs, whose research was under the auspices of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Their negative claims were carried in major newspapers nationwide and were widely broadcast by TV news networks. Among other places, they are reported and archived on www.CBSNEWS.com under their Healthwatch column. The article is entitled, “Prepubertal Gynecomastia Linked to Lavender and Tea Tree Oils.” (NEJM, Vol. 356, No. 5, pp. 479-485, Feb 1, 2007) read more

Wealth and Spirituality: Are They Compatible Or Contradictory?

by David Stewart, PhD, DNM, IASP*

A lot of Young Living Distributors, as well as a lot of people in general, have a problem resolving what seems to be a conflict between wanting to be of unselfish service to others and making money from offering that service. There is a verse in the Bible saying “It is more difficult for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven than for a camel to pass through the needle’s eye.” The phrase, “Needle’s Eye,” to which Jesus alluded was in reference to a particularly narrow gate into the city of Jerusalem through which camels could pass only by getting on their knees, not an actual needle. A misunderstanding of this verse has caused many to conclude that being rich, per se, is incompatible with living a spiritual life that is of service to others and pleasing to God. Nothing could be further from the truth. Here’s why. read more

And they’re off…or not

Kim Bloomer & Shadrach the Neo Mastiff

This last week one of the worst anti-pet laws to ever hit the law books was unleashed on Louisville, KY. Certainly the extreme animal rights groups are behind this latest fiasco to end all pet ownership period. Actually not just end pet ownership but end PETS. Yes you did read correctly…end pets because they’re slaves don’t you know. At least that’s what these delusional animal rights extremists would have everyone believe. The saddest part is pet owners and animal lovers are the very people helping these organizations get their laws passed in some of the biggest animal supported states and cities around the world!

Does that make sense? Well of course it doesn’t but it doesn’t mean it isn’t happening because it is. If it can happen in Louisville, KY where we think of horses, rolling pasturelands, and dog shows then it can happen anywhere and it is right under our pet owner noses! First the HEART Ordinance passed here in Albuquerque, NM which is insanity forcing everyone to spay or neuter and microchip their pets by April 2007. ALL and anyone with breeding stock will pay heavy fees and licenses to own and breed their animals. This has an animal rights agenda to it to end all pet ownership. This is NOT about responsible pet ownership because in a free country, we’d have the right AND responsibility to make those decisions for ourselves. This is about ending pet ownership, ending our freedoms, ending our rights.
