Vitalism, herbs and healing
By Dr. Kim • Dec 26th, 2008 • Category: Herbal Health for Pets
Those of us who are in natural health – be it animal or human – understand that disease is not something that comes at the body from without. Rather it is from within. And it is also known by us that healing comes from within also. While I may have my degree as a doctor of veterinary naturopathy I am also studying for my degree for human naturopathy. I honestly haven’t seen any difference in the two other than species – we learn more species in animal health AND most human health is predicated upon animal studies.
Even conventional medicine’s own Louis Pasteur said in his later years that his own theory was flawed that it wasn’t the microbe (germ) that was the problem it was the terrain (body). Meaning that the body is what heals or falls out of homeostasis (balance) into a DIS-ease state. If we do enough wrong – to ourselves or our pets – even without meaning to, we will fall prey to DIS-ease. Simply because the body was designed to heal itself when fully supported with proper nutrition, fresh air, sunshine, pure water, and exercise. Not processed foods (think kibble for dogs or junk food for humans), sodas, indoor sedentary lifestyles that we and our pets also are now living. Getting back to nature in order to allow nature to work within us is critical and key.
Here is a great article on this: Original Natural Healing: Herbs and Vitalism. And yes I do use herbs extensively in my own life, that of my dog and what I recommend to clients. And almost entirely exclusively purchase my herbs – for my tinctures, teas, poultices, etc., – from Mountain Rose Herbs, UNLESS I am growing them myself!
