Animal Talk Naturally Evolving into an Educational Platform

Starting out as a two-woman natural pet health podcast, Animal Talk Naturally is expanding to accommodate a growing desire for more education on natural pet health and welfare
February 25, 2007 – When two women put their minds together to create something you never know just what might happen. In the case of Kim Bloomer and Jeannie Thomason a natural pet care podcast happened.
The two met in the late spring of 2004 and discovered their like-minded approach to natural pet care. They felt they had to find a way to share their passion for natural health together but weren’t quite sure how to accomplish this with Bloomer living in NM and Thomason in CA. The two didn’t have to wait long to discover that podcasting was only some audio training and an RSS feed away.
The two worked a few online seminars and an online expo event together, waiting for the right opportunity to come along. In October of 2005 CoolCast Radio for podcasters was that right opportunity. Bloomer decided to apply to be one of the lineup on the station even before Animal Talk Naturally had a name or a format. “I figured the worst thing that could happen was they’d say “no” but I’d never know unless I applied. They listened to some of our seminars and my audio commentaries already on my RSS feed and said the content was good enough to include on the station” commented Bloomer.
Bloomer immediately contacted Thomason to ask if she wanted to join her in this new venture and heard a resounding yes! With some help from other friends the name of the show, format, and first recorded show was up on their podcast blog within a week.
By April of 2006 the show was also being streamed on All Pets Radio weekly, they’d added regular weekly guest experts, and another member to their team, veterinarian Dr. John Symes or better known to their audience as Dogtor J . Dogtor J has a monthly appearance on the show as a permanent part of their growing team. In addition they have a new sponsor of the New York City based City Pet Guide.
The podcast has grown to include daily short audio segments they call “Animal Crackers” and includes some audio commentaries from others on their team of like-minded animal loving friends.
Both Bloomer and Thomason’s individual businesses have grown along with their podcast. Bloomer, who co-authored the book “Whole Health for Happy Dogs” with veterinarian Dr. Jill Elliot released in 2006, is earning her degrees in holistic nutrition and naturopathy. Thomason is co-founder of a new organization, Natural Rearing Breeders Association coming soon.
Thomason nearly left the team recently in order to focus more on the NRBA but “I discovered I just had to continue to be a part of Animal Talk Naturally together with Kim” stated Thomason. “While I love all the wonderful guests who appear on the show each week, I really love it when Jeannie and I do a show alone. Then the old dynamic is once again in play and we always have a great time! I’m really glad Jeannie is staying.” commented Bloomer.
The two offer all their past shows either on their site or on CD. The podcast was just recently published in the new book for authors by Francine Silverman “Talk Radio for Authors“. The show will also be published in the upcoming book American Dogs of Distinction in late 2007.
