Kim Bloomer & Shadrach the Neo Mastiff

This last week one of the worst anti-pet laws to ever hit the law books was unleashed on Louisville, KY. Certainly the extreme animal rights groups are behind this latest fiasco to end all pet ownership period. Actually not just end pet ownership but end PETS. Yes you did read correctly…end pets because they’re slaves don’t you know. At least that’s what these delusional animal rights extremists would have everyone believe. The saddest part is pet owners and animal lovers are the very people helping these organizations get their laws passed in some of the biggest animal supported states and cities around the world!

Does that make sense? Well of course it doesn’t but it doesn’t mean it isn’t happening because it is. If it can happen in Louisville, KY where we think of horses, rolling pasturelands, and dog shows then it can happen anywhere and it is right under our pet owner noses! First the HEART Ordinance passed here in Albuquerque, NM which is insanity forcing everyone to spay or neuter and microchip their pets by April 2007. ALL and anyone with breeding stock will pay heavy fees and licenses to own and breed their animals. This has an animal rights agenda to it to end all pet ownership. This is NOT about responsible pet ownership because in a free country, we’d have the right AND responsibility to make those decisions for ourselves. This is about ending pet ownership, ending our freedoms, ending our rights.

Interestingly enough many people who love animals, love their pets are FOR these ordinances because they believe it will FORCE (there’s that word again) people to BE responsible. To use a slang vernacular, it ain’t gonna happen. The miscreants who are giving breeding and ownership a bad name (i.e. puppy millers, backyard breeders, dog fighters, lame duck owners and the rest of the usual suspects) will not be the ones to pay any penalties because they are already doing wrong without threat of penalty since many of them have deep pockets. Apparently that’s all you need to make things happen in this country – deep pockets. In a FREE society some will suffer because they make bad choices. However the laws on the books before all these HEART Ordinances began just needed to be enforced NOT putting stupid anti-pet laws like these into mandatory ordinances to end our civil rights and learning how to be responsible pet owners through ongoing educational programs.

The ones who will suffer, besides the animals being removed from the homes and owners they love, will be the responsible breeders and pet owners. Think of this: did Prohibition end alcoholism end drinking? Of course it didn’t, it just became a thriving black market! That’s what will happen to our animals making the lives of so many that already have it bad much worse.

I am all for the humane care and treatment of animals but do I want pet ownership to end? No way, absolutely no way. I think that education is the answer but many who lean to the animal rights side as opposed to those of us for animal welfare will say “education takes too long let’s legislate this” ending civil rights in our country as we know them. If these laws are allowed to pass you can be walking your UNaltered dog on a 6 foot leash in Louisville and be in violation of the law and have your dog taken from you. Here’s the paradox, ALL leashes are 6 ft or longer. Hmmm, I wonder what genius thought of that. Whoever they are, they figured a loop hole that would make ALL pet owners of UNaltered animals in violation. Guess what? The Humane Association of the US is behind MOST of this fiasco. Because of that, this statement by HSUS President, Wayne Pacelle bears reminding:

“We have no ethical obligation to preserve the different breeds of livestock produced through selective breeding. . . One generation and out. We have no problem with the extinction of domestic animals. They are creations of human selective breeding.” Wayne Pacelle, Senior VP of Humane Society of the US, formerly of Friends of Animals and Fund for Animals, Animal People, May, 1993
NOTE: (Wayne Pacelle’s initial training was similar to that of other PETA activists. Today he heads HSUS under the guise of “legitimacy”. It is the largest and most profitable of the Animal Rightist lobbying organizations.

People need to understand some things about this organization. First they do NOT have any kennels or house animals like all the rest of the humane associations in the USA. They are NOT the 50 year old Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. They are also NOT the American Humane Association. So let’s stop sending them our dollars. Wayne Pacelle says he doesn’t own any animals because he travels too much -yeah right! He doesn’t own them because he wants to see the end of ALL, ALL animal ownership and even worse the end of ALL pets -domestic or otherwise! That is also what PETA wants and all the other animal rights organizations. I wish people would wake up and really see who and what they are supporting; especially all the Hollywood actors who are so intent on supporting these organizations. If you want to be a vegetarian or vegan then be so but why fund these groups who also want to end you owning your pets??? Insanity, ignorance and duplicity reign!

In case you don’t believe me here are a few more quotes by these extremist groups for your displeasurable reading:

  • “Anybody who shoots a pit bull running loose is justified,” Kory Nelson, Assistant City Attorney of Denver, CO, San Francisco Chronicle, Monday, June 27, 2005 (Known all over as Denver’s “Dr. Death of Dogs”)
  • “Pet ownership is an absolutely abysmal situation brought about by human manipulation.” Ingrid Newkirk, national director, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Just Like Us? Harper’s, August 1988, p. 50.
  • “As John Bryant has written in his book Fettered Kingdoms, they [pets] are like slaves, even if well-kept slaves.” PETA’s Statement on Companion Animals.
  • “We are not especially ‘interested in’ animals. Neither of us had ever been inordinately fond of dogs, cats, or horses in the way that many people are. We didn’t ‘love’ animals.” Peter Singer, Animal Liberation: A New Ethic for Our Treatment of Animals, 2nd ed. (New York Review of Books, 1990), Preface, p. ii.
  • “Our goal: to convince people to rescue and adopt instead of buying or selling animals, to disavow the language and concept of animal ownership.” Eliot Katz, President In Defense of Animals, In Defense of Animals website, 2001
  • “It is time we demand an end to the misguided and abusive concept of animal ownership. The first step on this long, but just, road would be ending the concept of pet ownership.” Elliot Katz, President “In Defense of Animals,” Spring 1997
  • “The cat, like the dog, must disappear… We should cut the domestic cat free from our dominance by neutering, neutering, and more neutering, until our pathetic version of the cat ceases to exist.” John Bryant, Fettered Kingdoms: An Examination of A Changing Ethic (Washington, DC: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA), 1982, p. 15.

Do want to know a crazy addendum to this madness? Well it appears that the guy behind this in Louisville is not only a PETA affiliate but he also happens to be a Canadian (a convicted criminal and veterinarian) who is trying to dictate legislature as it regards to our animals here in the USA. Does that sit well with you Americans? It sure doesn’t with me. Bear in mind many of my friends are Canadian so this is not intended to be an anti-Canadian statement. I’m sure they wouldn’t want an American citizen allowed to be in that same position of power in their country. That is all that statement is about.

If you like dog shows, hunting, fishing, eating lobster and eggs, killing insects, rough-housing with your dog (horrors it could look like abuse) or any of these things, the Louisville, KY ordinance will really tick you off then! Before you jump on a bandwagon supporting these anti-pet people I hope you’ll read all the links I’ve supplied, do your homework and then decide if you like having your pets or if would you rather your government who is bought and paid for by the “deep pockets” rather than a vote by the public -otherwise this wouldn’t be happening if we the people were allowed to vote rather than city councils making all their fascist decisions for us – own them, neuter and microchip them for you; basically make ALL your animal-related decisions for you then you’ll love this new law. Apparently that is what Hollywood prefers too.

I’d also invite you to read our friend Ron Hevener’s article about owning, raising and loving animals because he explains more of the insanity of this ordinance:

Send an email to Mayor Abramson at: mayor@louisvilleky.gov or CALL 502-574-2003 EST and ask him to VETO CH 91!!! Even better snail mail him because this law is to take effect January 5th so get writing as they are deleting emails at this point. Snail mail is always the best way to get their attention.

Personally I plan on speaking out and doing what I can to not allow my pets to be taken away and owned by a government who is already lousy at running their own affairs try and run the lives of my pets for me…thinking of starting a Roverlution Part II since one already exists to fight Breed Specific Legislation. No thanks, I prefer the independent American way…or was that just my imagination once upon a Constitution?
