Natural Approach to mosquito, flea and tick prevention

That time is fast approaching when everyone will be seeking to try and prevent heartworms in their dogs by getting them on either a topical pesticide “so-called” prevention or an internal sythetic pesticide “so-called” prevention. We hope you’ll consider a more natural approach. By feeding a species specific diet (ie, raw diet in the case of our dogs and cats), and supplementing to support the immune system, the blood of your pets will be unappealing “naturally” to the horrible mosquito, tick, and fleas pests. In fact, good, clean, strong blood will not taste good to these pests. Only weakened, “sick”, sweet blood will. As an extra precaution to help with your natural approach a friend has shared with us the recipe she uses for her dogs and cats using essential oils and water:
I can’t say enough about Di-Gize (formerly Di-Tone) essential oil blend by Young Living. I mix it daily in the food. I also use all the supplements on a regular basis as well to maintain healthy blood. The healthier the blood, the worse it tastes to parasites!
I also make a protection spray using 20 drops of each of the following oils:
Purification Peppermint (warm climates only or summertime only for cold climates) and Orange and I mix them with 10 oz of distilled water, shake and spray the pet down every time it goes outside. If it stays outside, then I suggest using Purification along the spine and on the ears 2 – 3 times a day in addition to the spray.
For fleas and mites (especially ear mites), I use Purification oil. I always have a bottle of diluted Purification close by. I mix 1/4 bottle of Purification and fill it with V6 oil (15 ml bottle). I tip the ears with it and it helped get rid of ear infections as well. I do a great many rescues and each one of them gets Lavender oil and Purification oil applied to their ears right from the start. The Lavender oil I then apply to all my cats so they won’t fight because they all smell the same. Then I feed them a Di-gize laced treat and the next day they are started on the diet listed above. If tested positive for anything, they immediately receive RDTs (raindrop techniques) up to 3 a week until they are tested negative (usually within 3-4 months, some even sooner).

Peppermint (Mentha piperita) is one of the oldest and most highly regarded herbs for soothing digestion. Jean Valnet, M.D., studied peppermint’s effect on the liver and respiratory systems. Other scientists have also researched peppermint’s role in affecting impaired taste and smell when inhaled. Dr. William N. Dember of the University of Cincinnati studied peppermint’s ability to improve concentration and mental accuracy. Alan Hirsch, M.D., studied peppermint’s ability to directly affect the brain’s satiety center, which triggers a sense of fullness after meals. This plant is grown and distilled at the Young Living Farms.

An antiseptic blend formulated for diffusing to purify and cleanse the air and neutralize mildew, cigarette smoke, and disagreeable odors. When applied directly to the skin, Purification may be used to cleanse and soothe insect bites, cuts, and scrapes.
Ingredients
Citronella (Cymbopogon nardus), lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus), rosemary (Rosemarinus officinalis), melaleuca (Melaleuca alternifolia), lavandin (Lavandula x hybrida), and myrtle (Myrtus communis).

Orange (Citrus sinensis) brings peace and happiness to the mind and body. It has been recognized to help a dull, oily complexion.
