I’ve never been enamored of pet shampoos and conditioners, not even when I worked in a grooming shop. I always thought that the products were too “fake.” I can’t think of another word to use. Some made the coats soft and shiny but they always seemed to have too many chemicals, dyes, and other junk in them that couldn’t possibly be good for our pets. I found out I was right. If you go to our Contact Us page, you can read about all the toxins that are in our everyday household and personal products -gives me the shivers! However, I am thrilled to be able to offer you the ONLY two grooming products I’ll even suggest to people UNLESS it’s a brush or nail trimmers that is. I do have grooming products from other companies but quite honestly I ONLY use Animal Scents products for my dog and won’t suggest any others to clients or customers because I only want to offer you the best. If I can’t do that, then I won’t offer you anything. It’s why you won’t see any commercial pet food on this site because to me it’s all just poop. Your dog or cat will thank you for using these products on them. My dog actually LIKES to take a bath and he never did until I started using these products. Hello everyone! Yes, this says using essential oils with cats but we aren’t talking just any oils here but specifically Young Living Essential Oils. I want to share with you the numerous testimonials I’ve received from people who are successfully using the Young Living oils with their cats. These testimonials were in direct response to a rather negative post to the Holistic Pet Care topic I currently run on Suite101.com on an article I wrote entitled “Essential Oils and Pets”. I have pure-bred Munchkins. This is a breed of cat that is often called the Dachshund of the cat world. They are short little guys, but every bit of them is cat.

I have used Melrose and straight melaleuca on them when I brought two kitties home from the breeders and the vet informed me they had ringworm. It worked well, killing all signs of it within 2 weeks, and they were pretty bad. The kitties had no side effects, they were about 7 weeks old when I brought them home.

This is one of Shadrach’s favorite essential oil blends. How do I know? Because when he is anxious over something such as nail trimming time (he hates this) or bath in a tub (he hates this more) every now and then, I bring out the Peace & Calming to help him do just that: calm down and be peaceful. It’s the BEST thing I’ve ever used for calming.

I adhere to the French & German models of aromatherapy and apply the essential oils neat. I use this particular oil blend on Shadrach neat. I rarely diffuse it but I do if I want us to all remain calm and happy in my home during a stressful time! I apply this blend to Shadrach’s ears and often his paw pads. I’ll have photos to use under the description of applying these oils to cats. Yes, I have someone very experienced in this who will share with you.

Bleach is a very toxic and dangerous substance to use in your home. Even inhaling them can leave dangerous petrochemical residue in your lungs and the lungs of your pets. Even worse, if floors are being washed and pets are laying on the floors, those chemicals are going into their bodies even more rapidly than ours through their skin, their paws and through licking. Dogs like to lick things a lot! So rather than put yourselves and our fur kids at risk, here is a great recipe our friend Heather Harings shared using our wonderful Young Living Essential Oils:

Use water(purified/filtered) , Thieves Essential Oil blend, and PurificationEssential Oil blend in a dark spray bottle (sometimes I also add lemon). The good news is these oils have some really great extra benefits besides disinfecting as you’ll see in their descriptions…
